Boston Rock City

After the game yesterday, Ben purchased Guitar Hero II after some subtle hinting from Amanda. This game is awesome. Tons of fun rocking out to sweet jams like KISS's "Strutter." Really addictive, challenging, and right up the alley of one who likes to rock the air axe on occasion (such as I). There's a bit too much metal on there that I don't know, but I guess that's the point.

I'd still be there if you didn't make me leave.

Let's just say I have some sore arms and stiff hands this morning at work.

Hmmm. Weird. Ben and I were discussing this game yesterday, and I wondered why a person would get this game, instead of just getting a real guitar.

Then again, I also don't understand Wii.

anne had the same reservations about gh vs. A Real Guitar, or at least something that would teach you how to play ARG. not sure if she's changed her mind now...

Isn't that a little like comparing owning EA Sports MLB '07 to going out and buying a baseball bat and ball, or going out to the batting cages? Or going to the gun shop and buying a sniper rifle to pick people off from my apartment window vs. playing GTA?

I assume there's no comparison whatsoever with learning to play a real guitar vs. playing guitar hero.

Yeah, I mean that's a silly complaint to have. It's for entertainment - it's neither a teaching tool nor a realistic simulation. I find it weird that people would even think about it like that. If I ever restring my guitar and start learning a few chords, that experience will be completely dissimilar to my jamming out to an STP cover in front of a packed crowd in Providence this past Saturday night.

I thought it was Providence Rock City?

Before I had the Guitar Hero experience, Amanda was trying to explain to me how it worked. I was confused by the fact that there's a thing shaped like a real guitar that you strum like a real guitar, but with a 'fretboard' that doesn't correspond to how you'd actually play the notes of the songs in the game. I was just thinking it would be better if it was more like playing a real guitar, because that would be a cool way to learn how to play a real guitar, kind of like when we had to learn to type and there was that game in Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing (where you're a frog and you eat the letters by typing them). Kind of. Anyhow, I'm shocked that no one has thought of that yet, especially now that Guitar Hero is out and so popular. If only I knew any engineers to help with the details, I'd invent that shit and be at the patent office right now...

All that aside, Your Mom* really did put in a solid effort on Saturday night. Your Mom* really knows how to please the crowds from coast to coast.
