Not Enough
Why does it always seem like Wakefield gets poor run support? The Sox were only able to muster a paltry single run against Igawa & co. yesterday. Karstens left in the first after taking a ball off the shin - probably the worst thing that could have happened to the Sox. Igawa pitched well, as did the Yankees' bullpen. Wake didn't have too bad a game, either: he only went 5.1 innings, as he threw nearly 120 pitches. Too many walks, but he only surrendered 3 runs. Short enough lead to give the Sox the opportunity to come back, but they couldn't this time (the Yankees have actually led at some point in all of the games played this year between the two clubs).
Let's win the weekend series today at 1:05PM. Crazy J. Tavarez against the Yankees' Wang. Fisticuffs to be had.
For fun, check out the aftermath of Mirabelli's letting his bat fly toward 3rd base:
