I wonder if the kids realized that it was a racist act. After all, mascots of opposing schools are hung up like that.
I mean, burning a cardboard Obama or drowning the cardboard Obama wouldn't work very well, would it? A tarred and feathered cardboard Obama might work.
For people to see it, you hang it.
Then again, I wouldn't have participated. I also wouldnt' have attended a Christian college.

You can't play devil's advocate to an act like this.
