Of course it makes several assumptions about ROI, but the underlying point holds true.
I think I'll stick with my Samsung.

It also makes the unfortunate assumption that it's either iPhone or no phone at all. If you already need/have a phone with data plan, the only price difference is the initial cost of the phone -- and maybe a little bit of your sanity when you realize you're stuck with AT&T and no longer get good reception everywhere...

Only superficially. The essential point is the opportunity cost of paying for one of these data plans.
How many people really need these plans?
