Check Me Out, I Cook!

Tonight, as I made a slightly disappointing dinner (couscous with chicken in a garlic-butter-white wine sauce) I thought to myself, "Whoa - I've been cooking for six years!" This statement has to be qualified quite a bit, of course, but I've been taking an interest in and cooking food (i.e., more complicated meals than Kraft Macaroni & Cheese or Chef Boyardee) for the last six or so years. This was somewhat shocking to me to realize; on the one hand because I have, dare I say, progressed significantly in my culinary skills; on the other because it was simply one more reminder that I am getting a tad less young.

My senior year in college was when I caught the bug. A few experimental uses of the Foreman and excessive Food Network viewing and I was off to the races. I absorbed several nuggets of wisdom from a couple gents with whom I was closely acquainted (of peerless character, they, and impressive skill in the kitchen; my soul is the better for their friendship today, as is my palate).

Not really sure what my point is here, aside from: I hope that I have the opportunity to serve you some of my fare soon - and that you enjoy it.

Buon' appetito!
