Father Curt

Great post from Schilling on the possible Santana trade, but more importantly some philosophizing about life in the Bigs from one of the Game's biggest.

(Excuse his typos - his avuncular wisdom, enthusiasm, and sheer awesomeness negate any necessity for copyediting.)

Schilling could go all of next season without a win, and that additional role alone - that of experienced mentor to the younger members of the pitching staff (provided the Sox don't trade them all away for Santana) - would still more than justify his salary for '08.

While I think people tend to overvalue this sort of thing, I also think there is a lot of value in Schilling's mentoring capacity.
