Grylls Is Still Beating Wild

When I first read the blurb about this story on Digg, I was appalled. Could the pedestal I've constructed to honor Bear Grylls come crashing down?

No, it's pretty much a non-story. Grylls is demonstrating how to survive, and it's clear that most of the hardcore stuff he does is legit. Aside from the fact that in his actual life, he's done about a thousand trajonculous things that no mere mortal could achieve.

Wait. That article is about a show called "Born Survivor." We watch "Man vs. Wild." Are they the same thing?

I have always presumed that all of those survivor shows (like that other one with the guy who films himself) are kind of staged to a certain extent.

But Bear did jam his fist into a crevice and used it to leverage himself and pull himself out of a hole, so I'm going to keep fantasizing about him.

I'm not sure if the show was just rebroadcast under a different name or not; either way it doesn't matter. The accusations may be literally true, but don't actually matter in terms of the substance of the show.

Also not touching that last sentence...

I love new commenters. Even if the commentary is just about how hot Bear is.

It's the same show. In the US it's called "Man vs. Wild" and in the UK it's called "Born Survivor."

Alright, Lets get something straight. Bear Grylls is one crazy mofo! Who in their right mind stumbles upon a dead cow in Siberia, Cuts open its jugular vain, and drinks the blood from its carcass. Not only does he do that but he also Skins it, wears its skin inside out draped on his shoulders, and then finally eats its liver while its still warm and "fresh". I mean seriously people that not survival, that is indeed insanity!

Bear has the fortitude of a mythical Greek hero. People who say his show is "staged" from the comfort of their air-conditioned room have no idea what it's like to go through what he has. They'll never know the hell he went through, that is SAS selection (and neither will I, not by choice) before he ever had a film crew.
