Irony & Frustration
Santana wasn't on tonight, but it didn't matter. The Sox made him throw a lot of pitches but he got out of a few jams. In the fourth, Wily Mo got a 2-out single and reached 2nd, then 3rd on successive passed balls by Santana. Pedroia hits a fastball on an 0-2 count for a ground rule double to drive Pena home. This was the only run the Sox could get in a frustrating night for the offense.
Despite the loss, I'm not too upset. These nights happen. The irony is that Santana was off, and Crazy J. Tavarez pitched an absolute gem for the fifth starter: 6IP, 4H, 2ER, 3BB, 7K. Zero fly-ball outs with that many strikeouts prove how effective Tavarez was - he was pounding the zone with his sinker, which was on point.
How about the addition of Ken Macha to the postgame crew? He seems to add some actual insight. I back it. I also like saying Ken Mmmmmmacha in a Joe Castiglione voice.
Schilling goes against Ponson tomorrow afternoon. If we win then we win the series, and that's all we need to do.

I saw Santana pitch last weekend in Detroit and he was off then too... so off that he lost the game. I think he's just not a spring pitcher. His numbers have always been much better after the All Star break.
And if Sidney Ponson is pitching tomorrow, then I'll pretty much guarantee you a Sox victory.
I really hate not living in an area where I can watch these games.
