The .406 Club?

Ortiz crushed a solo shot in the top of the 6th for first blood in last night's meeting between the Sox and the Twinkies. The single run was all that Wakefield & co. would need in the 2-0 victory. The 2nd run came off an RBI single from Coco. He knocked in Drew from 3B. Drew's otherwise anemic slugging got a boost from his 3-bagger.
Wakefield pitched a brilliant, scoreless seven strong, dropping his ERA to an impressive 2.11.
With three hits last night, Alex Cora raised his batting average to .406, a number imbued with particular significance for Sox fans. He's doing everything right in his playing time these days. Difficult to get excited about Pedroia's starts, although he does need ABs to get up to speed. The question is, should he get those in AAA? If Cora moves into an everyday role, he will come back to earth of course, but he's a solid player with great fundamentals. Remy gushes over him. And if he's good enough for the Remdawg, he's good enough for me.
I have to mention here that the Yanks blew a five-run lead in the first inning of their game against the Mariners last night, eventually resulting in a 15-11 Seattle victory. Fun times!
Crazy J. Tavarez, who has been consistently drawing the short straw on his starts, goes against the Twinkies' ace Santana tonight. 7:10PM, Batshit Standard Time.
