The Wishbones

I took The Wishbones, by Tom Perrotta, with me on my trip to Texas over New Year's Eve. It turned out to be a great book for a couple four-hour flights: short, entertaining, and not too demanding on the higher faculties. Perrotta's novel is about Dave Raymond, a guitarist in a wedding band in New Jersey. Dave's got some talent, but he long ago gave up his dream of hitting the big time and is enjoying playing gigs with his buddies in the band. He then makes a decision which surprises even himself - he proposes to his longtime girlfriend. Things start to spiral out of control for Dave - he starts getting involved with another woman in the months leading up to his marriage and the other members of the band start having their own problems. People start growing up, and it's messing with Dave's world.

It's a pretty funny book, a bit Wedding Singer-esque. There are some great characters, and if you're looking for something light and entertaining for a day's read, go ahead and check out The Wishbones.
